University of Swabi: Resilient Education in Pakistan

PCE partnered with the University of Swabi on a workshop, Resilient Education in Pakistan, that deliberately brought the grassroots and the academy into the same room, PAGE members, faculty, research scholars, students, and other education-sector stakeholders. The aim was to put climate change, and its growing toll on schooling, squarely on the agenda, and to begin building frameworks to respond.

The discussions went beyond the general to the specific and human: how to protect the most vulnerable when disaster strikes, the resilience of persons with disabilities, the safety of girls, and the cultural factors that leave female students exposed. Participants pointed to community-based emergency funds, the integration of climate education into learning, and the empowerment of teachers as concrete ways forward.
