Girls’ Education

Girls' education simply means girls have the same right to learn as boys: to start school, to stay in it as long as boys do, and to leave with the same choices about their future. It is not a favour or a special cause. It is half of the right to education, owed to half the country's children.

In Pakistan, girls are often denied it. They are less likely to start school and more likely to drop out as they get older. They face a multitude of problems including: long or unsafe journeys to school, too few female teachers, no proper toilets, early marriage, and the old belief that their education matters less.

This matters because few things change a country as much as educating its girls. A girl who finishes school earns more, marries later, and raises healthier children who are far more likely to go to school themselves. The benefits pass from one generation to the next. For PCE, girls' education is a matter of fairness and a national priority, and we treat the barriers as problems to be fixed.
